Last Days in Paradise

These couple of days in Samana have been the sunniest so far! Our first day in the ecolodge of Samana we learned all about the project that Orquidea and Antu, our hosts here, work on. They explained how the lodge,  their garden, and their chicken coop help them give their visitors a new perspective on waste and permaculture. We then divided the group in two and while some of us planted banana trees, others gathered scraps for compost. It was the first time most of us picked up a chicken…and realized how hard it is to get them!

Soil in Samana is incredibly red. Locals say it is the color of sangria!

After lunch, we went to Playa Rincon, the closest beach to our lodge When we arrived, we took two boats to see the mangroves of the area in a beautiful river that ends in the ocean. Then we went found a spot on the beach! The group agreed that this specific beach is one of the most beautiful we have been to. Its blue waters, soft powdery sand, the amount of coconut trees around us, and the distant mountains made the views breathtaking. We all tanned, swam in the crystal waters, walked, and some of us had a nap.

After we came back and showered, we had dinner. So far, this lodge has given us the best meals, and 70% of it comes from their garden!

It’s been the perfect place to experience our last days together as a group.
